The Dumpster Diaries ...
This journal is from my 2003 climbing season which
took me from Joshua Tree to Indian Creek, Yosemite, and back home to
New England. I arrived in Josh by myself looking for climbing
partners and ended up making a whole crew of new friends. Together we
discovered the bounty of free food in California's dumpsters and spent
the winter and spring "living off the land" eating for free and
climbing like crazy. This journal documents our adventures and to me,
it expresses the playfulness and freedom of the climbing life.
In 2004 an article about this journal and that climbing season appeared in Alpinist Magazine #6. Below are 13 of my favorite pages which I reproduced in large format prints for an art show at the Rostel Gallery in July 2007.
